Are these penny buns? The only foraged mushrooms I eat are parasols which are very obvious. Is there anything nasty that looks like this please? I heard that all boletes are edible thanks

there is a nasty bolete ,boletus satanus (look it up ) those look tasty to me ,check the id with phillips,jordan online and apply the usual "new food rules" well found in my opinion but always confirm anything from several probably trustworthy sources in matters of life and death such as shroom id.

Good advice from dpack. Boletus satanas (Satan's Bolete) looks very different from the photos - it is very distinctive & very rare. The photos look like Boletus edulis - the Penny Bun or Cep to me. But as dpack says be sure of your ID before eating.

Nomnomnomnomnom MOST Boletes are edible, but the guys are right, one very distinctive nasty one, Devils Bolete and a couple which will ruin any meal you put them in. The question now is to dry or not to dry

i think it is safe to say that those are categorically boletus edulis aka the cep. My favourite mushroom of all time and in great condition! Enjoy

I have just had the best mushrooms I have ever eaten. Just lightly fried with garlic and ground pepper, on crusty bread to mop up the juices. Heaven...

heaven can be either sort ,proper id is a very good way forward re drying ceps i recon they are better made into duxelle and frozen than dried which i find a bit overwhelmingly shroomy

They sound yummy - I love raw Cep (small young specimens) even better than cooked. I've got two or three big containers of dried Ceps from just a couple of forages this year. They keep for ages & just a few really adds a great flavour to any dish. Love em

Wow JP! I love the ways they are all dotted around that patch of grass. Have not seen as many fine ceps since I went picking a few weeks back

Thanks banana - it was a breathtaking sight. For me, not only is the Porcini the tastiest mushroom, but also the most beautiful. Quite magical
