Well, I went on my pig keeping course at the above place yesterday! I had thought that they'd not be able to cover enough in one day, but wow! I learned a lot of new and good stuff. I'd recommend the course to anyone thinking of having pigs, or even to anyone interested in the animals. We covered all sorts of stuff, geared to small-scale keeping of rare breed animals: housing, feeding, breeding, health, costing, selling... Lots of hands on stuff too, I gave a cracking little German Micro pig cross her iron squirt! Fantastic pigs, clearly all in very good health, in good conditions: Tony York really seems to know his stuff.
As a result, I'm bringing forward the date when I aquire pigs, and raised the game from 2 to 3, and also decided to base them in our woodland rather than the field I'd originally selected for them. Can't wait now! |

Yep: they'll be the nameless pigs of Doanog! Tamworths: hard work, but worth it. Pork, bacon, brawn, faggots, sausages, ham... have I forgotten anything? Oh yes, excercise from trying to catch up with the pigs! That'll work off all the calories from the pork, bacon, brawn etc etc etc. |
