the weapon is armed and the system is hot

when tt said you were a bigun i took that as civilian talk, you are rather big, if i do not mangle you too much you might be a good taxidermy donor

if the peanut butter in the box of doom is not to your liking i can provide other options

as it has been a while since i needed to i was a bit twitchy acting as weapons officer with a live fenn number 4 trap in a box made from 2 draws and a few antique bricks but noticing the lid was held down with a rather nice Elizabethan one made up for a little of my scaredyness

i did get bitten by a 4 and it hurt, you will not know how that feels unless you set woodlouse traps

peanut butter smells ace"come and get it" but i have just had this quarter years fish delivered so i might offer you a choice morsel drawing pinned to the lid above the trap:lol:

must go dear rat you are a splendid example of your tribe madam but i know you are going to die

ps you could leave now but having eaten/discombobulated my mousy chums die is rather appealing

only one of my fenn traps is set, the next might get dangled at rat height in the wood shed, baited under sellotape on the treadle

worse part two, there is a very sly way to use a MK 4 ir night sight, pcp, decent invisibility, a good suppressor and a line of sight on high to a decent backstop and baiting station position

i spose the sly part re "the public" as well as the target might be a problem if i got it wrong and somebody got upset
the backstop would be about a brick depth from the alley which is a public highway and the nest is attic+30 ft so the distance from discharge is well naughty in uk law even if the shot would be safe, nearly silent and almost certainly invisible(i have silk gloves and meshnet)

i am tempted to ask advice but if i was asked for it, i would say don't and you never said that:lol:

Rats are a pain, and sad it has upset the Sammisons again. Probably best to go with trapping in a built up area.

all three of those are true, the good news is youngii sammison is, rather nervously, still about but the nice thing about fenns is that set properly by catch is unlikely.
with the big nipper style of rat trap by catch is a considerable risk, as is a trapping and mangling rather than a clean execution of the intended victim
in a fenn4 a mouse would either not set it off or be safe on the treadle while the arms meet over it, it would be a nasty surprise and bouncier than white water rafting but probably physically harmless

long tail mice do not seem keen on flesh based bait either unlike rats

a slight aside but ideal for a broader approach
a little while ago i read about an industrial rat trap that seems rather effective
a door with a nice aroma, door shuts, rat exposed to fumes of solvent anaesthetics(and a bit of disinfectant), trap opens rat falls into solvent tank and dies, machine resets and counts
when it has got a tankful it phones home for a cleaning crew to empty the tank and resupply it
these things were taking hundreds a week when they were being tested

As long as it is rat specific, that is fine, so perhaps suitable for around town, but not so good in the country. By catch could be a big problem there.

i think the solvent one is for urban alleyways and food factories, iirc they tested it in both

one rather good idea is neighbourhood rat weeks, everyone joins in to tidy and drive from the edges and then have a killing spree in their last refuge.
a few places have "urban hunts" with sticks and terriers etc who will have a day clearing an alley or estate

fenn work fine round a farm yard with a huge variety of domestic critters and wildlife, no by catch quite a lot of rats

so long as the box/tunnel is well-chosen and placed with the right baits i recon there is a lot less by catch than with most other methods, even those that would seem rat focussed such as tidy and dig and especially those using poison bait rather than any sort of direct attack

tidy shot or well set fenn seem to be very focussed, traps never sleep which does give them advantages over sniping

i have never had by catch in a fenn set for rats well apart from my finger once

not as efficient as three chickens using a spotty pig as a digger to target nests

I don't think many places these days would go for the urban rat hunt idea. Most people shudder at the thought of rats, but killing them like that would be beyond the pale.

something with rat size teeth likes smoked salmon the box of doom is not as new and scary as it was, just a matter of time now putting human/rat interactions aside the sammisons hired me as a contractor.

I hope you get the dirty rat DPack, by whichever means you can. We have one that has turned up in our shed, which is there because of the bird food. I've put poison down and it's disappearing. Fingers crossed it's a goner.

hope so, as a familiar that lives in your shirt they are charming, even as a little black (rather than a fancy or "wild" scandirat )roommate they have merit if they do not eat the corners off a few grands worth of comics wild ones are a nuisance delux i have adjusted the box of doom a little to make it a more attractive and dangeroos place

my gift of salmon has been accepted, the next bait will require standing on the treadle to attempt to reach it pinned to the top of the box over the trap

Mice are sweet as long as there are not too many of them, they stay in the great outdoors and don't nibble or nest in anything I don't want them to. Birch bundles may be very nice for a mouse, but I have other plans for them. Think I saw a mouse crossing the track in front of me yesterday evening, but all I actually was was something dark and very fast moving of about the right size. We get wood mice in the woods, and they really are pretty.
