zivania is Cypriot raki, tsipouro or tsikoudia in Greece.Its a spirit and it comes from the fermantation and subsequent distillation of the remains of winemaking[flesh,skin and pips]!!!It is lovely with fish and oily food[mezes] and if you have a choice ,get drunk on zivania ,but definately not on Ouzo!!!

I lived/worked in Cyprus for three years and had to drink the stuff on high days and holidays with my Cypriot staff. It takes some winding back and getting used to, I have to say! Janet once drunk half a bottle at an Xmas function party when it was mixed with orange juice; I don't think she realised it was alcoholic at the time but she did the next morning.

I love Blewits. I'll have to check the forest this weekend.... although, we have not really had any for the last 3 years in the usual spots.
