Give them a chance - the weather had been a bit grim (she says being optimistic) I'm hoping for swallows soon

Still no swallows, chiffchaffs or redstarts - but pairs of kites, buzzards and ravens bombing round every morning. Next door (1/4 mile away,) have 2 swallows. I still live in hopes!

I hope yours return soon Lowri. Things are so late this year they might just have decided to stop off somewhere warmer on the way for a short holiday.

They'll be OK. Swallows have no problem raising two broods in one summer. At least they didn't use to when I lived in a house with Swallows. Henry

Opened the door to let the dog out at 7 30 am and a pair of siskins were as surprised as I was! They were aiming for the peanuts. I think they are only the third pair I've seen here in 10 years! Are they that rare, or just well camouflaged?

Saw some swallows or swifts yesterday, but I couldn't tell which at the distance they were.

I thought the swallows were late this year - then I checked out the date I first saw them last year and it turns out they are a few days earlier this year. I wonder if that early hot spell just made me think things were further on than they really are

They've got here! Or at least made a pit stop at 9 pm last night! A pair! But I haven't seen them so far today. It's a start! Now for the cuckoo!

Youâ€™ve no real hope of seeing the difference on the wing (ie colours and so on) They do move differently, Swifts are much stiffer in the wings, and also generally fly very high. The best way to tell is to listen. Swallows chat, Swifts scream (and Housemartins blow raspberries)

They were quite low so probably swallows.
