anyone sprout seeds? I like eating them in salads.. so should grow my own.. any tips? do s and don't s?

Needs to be quite warm temp wise for things like alfalfa to sprout. Green and brown lentils are quickest - 2 to 3 days till they've got little shoots. I have a little stacking set of plastic trays with a drip tray at the bottom, very useful as it's easy to rinse them. A jar is fine of course. EV

I did wonder about buying a special sprouter thingy or just using a jar

my kitchen is quite cool in summer - cave-like.. might be too cool

is the greenhouse too warm?

A friend gave me my stacking one - I used to use jars just as successfully.

I'd give it a go in the greenhouse - not in direct sunshine.
The warmth should get them going pretty quickly.

Just remember to rinse morning and evening and don't do too many at once

Best to start smallish amounts every few days.

I'd think the greenhouse would be too warm, but you can experiment and see what works best. I do them in my kitchen, but in the summer when it's hot I find that they go manky before they are sufficiently sprouted.

In the past Alfalfa has worked very well for me recently I had a lot of trouble with mould so haven't sprouted for some time. I wonder if the kitchen in my previous house was cooler/drier?

I have sprouted mung bean shoots in a glass jar with a piece of kitchen towel held in place on the top with an elastic band. They went all right.
