I hope that the people organising this are also going to care for the trees over the next few years and arrange the 'beating up' (replanting where the trees fail). Planting trees is all very well, but nobody seems to think about what is going to happen next.
Connecting existing woods with hedgerows is a good way to help wildlife if anyone is thinking of running this sort of exercise.
