the sloe or slow stuff is fine, this is quick and rather good

decent berries, not on a fancy merengue quality but grade 1

put berries in pan with a tiny bit of water and a couple of split vanilla pods, bring to simmer
add enough nice sugar so as it is not too sweet or tart, a few ounces to the pound is probably in the zone

simmer until soft stirring now and again as it progresses
dont overcook it, fallen rather than jam

sieve, cool
use equal volumes of gin and red stuff
store in fridge

dilute to taste with good water

not sure about "a slice" maybe a good orange would be about right
